Nobody knows how ICE and Law enforcement are choosing who is a U.S. Citizen or not. At this point, we recommend for all U.S. Citizens carry their passport as additional proof of identification.
If a U.S. citizen is falsely detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), they should:
Remain Calm and Assertive: Do not resist arrest or obstruct officers.
Insist on Your Rights:
Demand to see identification: All ICE agents should have proper identification.
Ask for a supervisor: If you believe your rights are being violated.
Inquire about the reason for detention: Understand the basis for their suspicion.
Do Not Lie or Provide False Information: This can complicate matters and may be used against you.
Request a Lawyer: You have the right to an attorney. If detained, ask to speak with one immediately.
Document Everything:
Take note of the officers' names and badge numbers.
Record the time and location of the encounter.
Note any mistreatment or violations of your rights.
File a Complaint: If you believe your rights were violated, file a complaint with the appropriate agency.
Important Notes:
Know Your Rights: Familiarize yourself with your rights as a U.S. citizen.
Carry Proof of Citizenship: Always carry your driver's license, passport, or birth certificate.
If Detained: Do not sign any documents without consulting with an attorney.
